For awhile now, I’ve seen a lot about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. Not that I’ve seriously read what the benefits are, or could tell you off the top of my head. But you could probably ask my sister, Chelsea. She just knows these things…
Anyway, the week before Christmas, I came down with a cold. I’m kind of a baby when it comes to getting sick, and it’s an area that I’ve had to “grow up” in since living away from home, and certainly since becoming a mom. No longer can I just lay around and let my mom take care of me. I have to be proactive about my health and about recovering from illnesses.
I also don’t like medication. I employ natural remedies when I can, so as not to interfere with my body’s ability to fight infections on it’s own...Naturally. And let me tell you, apple cider vinegar is a powerful tool. From my Italian heritage, I can tell that alongside a good helping of garlic, you could probably conquer the world with apple cider vinegar.
While visiting family for the holidays, and desperate for a solution to my cold, I came up with the idea to make myself this vinegar lemon tea. I’ve been drinking it most mornings since then. It’s my morning drink. I’ve even found that on the days I don’t drink coffee, drinking this tea seems to keep the caffeine headaches at bay. However, I wouldn’t go so far as to say there’s real medical legitimacy behind that statement...I am no doctor, or health guru. Again, ask my sister.

Heather’s Morning Drink
- 12 oz. Boiling water (as if making tea)
- 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 3 slices of lemon
- A dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
- ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
- ¼ tsp tumeric (optional)
Combine all ingredients in glass, mug, or mason jar of your choosing, and enjoy!
Adjust ingredients to your liking (more honey, if you want it sweet...more or less vinegar, depending on how tangy you want it...and more or less lemon depending on how tart you want it).
You can really get creative with what you add to the drink, so have at it!
